 Blog Reflection

Multimedia can be found everywhere in our society today. New technology is increasing people’s ability to learn through the eyes of multimedia. Multimedia can be defined generically as any combination of two or more media such as sound, images, text, animation, and video. For educational technology purposes, multimedia refers to computer-based systems that use associative linkages to allow users to navigate and retrieve information stored in a combination of text, sounds, graphics, video, and other media. Multimedia literacy is a growing concern among educators as American society continues to depend on image technologies such as television, video, and film. Educators need to prepare children to live and function in a society that relies on multimedia for information storage and dissemination. As a leader in my Sunday school department we focus on making learning a blast for kids. My job as a leader focus on teaching kids how important technology is importance.

Leaders can learn about how to incorporate these media in his or her class. I found that using visual make student eager to learn. When bright colors are being displayed on screen it makes them attend tent to what they are watching on a screen as a group. You will get more response to your question by incorporating different technology for learning. Multimedia can be used in instruction in a variety of creative and stimulating ways. Applications include teacher presentations, student projects, and discovery learning. Although teachers are encouraged to develop their own materials, many excellent educational multimedia products are also 
 available.

    I definitely think that teaching our students how to become technologically literate is important. As our society continues to progress, technology will only improve and our dependance on it will only grow. Instructing our students at a young age on how to use these new tools can help them become more familiar with the technological world around them and will ultimately allow them to invent and produce new ideas to better our world.
    I think you had an excellent point when discussing how children become more attentive with visuals. Technology has given us creative visuals to aid in our students learning more effectively. Personally, I can't imagine teaching a class without all of my supplemental History Channel videos to give my students an idea of the context of the situation. Having this technology can give them a closer picture of what reality was really like in things like WWII or the Great Depression.

  2. I think it is amazing what we have the capability to do and see with technology. I agree that it is important to get kids excited about technology and learning. I know that I fight on a daily basis to compete with the multiple distractions students see as a necessary part of their day. It may be text messages, twitter, snapchat, music or any other number of mediums that flow through that one small device attached to their hands and ears. Increased multimedia in the classroom and interactive media helps me fight that battle. Having students engaged in what you present helps focus their attention away from their multitasking. I think it is important that we begin to teach our students in a media rich environment because that is exactly the type of environment they are going to be expected to be productive in. I know that having an interactive whiteboard has helped some with engagement issues. However, now that the newness of the technology is wearing off, I am searching for other techniques that will help engage students in daily lessons.
