  1. Thanks Chris, for the video theory and topic which point at some important concerns. When teaching a distance learning class the traditional style of teaching needs to be modified. A good classroom teacher may or may not be a good online teacher, just like some students are better face to face rather than in a virtual classroom such as Blackboard.
As technology leads to new devices as you mentioned, so different styles and strategies of teaching need to be used, tried, and evaluated. As classes are completed, surveys can be used to guide the strategies effective development. Perhaps blind interviews to hear a person speak and share rather than marks on a survey would help as we can gain more meaning from verbal expression. I also think that means perhaps being prepared to give a strategy more than one chance, and more than one classroom.
A teacher, substitute, regular, or other, needs to be prepared to adjust their style and curriculum to the needs of the school, students, and community. This doesn’t mean that we change it all, but adjustments to make it more teachable, retainable, and useable to help learners acquire the knowledge for future use. The “open” university allows some of that flexibility, but I wonder about its accountability.
